2023 | Gilbert, AZ

The Lightgathering 2023 was held in Gilbert, AZ at Neil & Marilyn Miller’s house. In addition to our normal activities, we held a special gathering to celebrate 50 years of Lightgathering!

2022 | Patagonia, AZ

This year, Lightgathering was held in and around Patagonia, AZ.

We set up camp at Lake Patagonia, and held excursions down through the San Rafael Valley, the border road, and the historic border town, Lochiel.

2021 | Salton Sea

This year’s Lightgathering was held at Salton Sea. We established a base camp at Slab City, and explored the surrounding area’s attractions like Salvation Mountain, and Bombay Beach.

2020 | Cancelled Due to COVID

Unfortunately this year’s Lightgathering had to be canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite the nationwide “Shelter Indoors” mandate, Alan and Neil ignored the orders and made a long trek through Northern Arizona and Southern Utah.

Alan Pitcairn and William Bay hosted Lightgathering in San Diego in 2019. Alan and Brigit graciously opened their house as the community gathering place. The house also served as the campground for the folks that were willing to rough it.

The big photographic event was a guided tour along the US/Mexico border fence with the US Border Patrol. In San Diego there are 14 miles of border fence that starts at the ocean just south of Imperial Beach, and stretches East towards the desert foothills of Otay.

2018 | St George, Utah

This year, Lightgathering was held in St George, Utah.

Due to previous attempts to hold Lightgathering in Utah earlier in the summer, we’ve been cursed with cloudless, blue skies. But this year was held later in the year, at the beginning of December. And not only did we get some dramatic skies, we also got a good dose of inclement weather.
